Sarah Ray

Winner of our Mother's Day Poetry Contest

Sarah is a poet, teacher, and mother living in Oakland, CA. She holds an MFA in poetry from Saint Mary's College of California. She currently teaches first grade and enjoys writing about things kids say, the natural world, and the view outside her window.

The inspiration for the poem "Mothers" came after a summer where her mom spent weeks in the ICU and writing poems in the hospital waiting room helped Sarah make it through the long hours waiting for her mom to recover. One thing her mom always taught her was that seeing a cardinal bird was a message from people who have passed on. There are many symbols in this poem that have brought comfort in difficult times. It's a beautiful read. Find it HERE.

You can learn more about Sarah and her poetry by visiting SRayPoet.com.

As our network continues to grow, we are so pleased to feature different moms/writers - each deserving of special recognition for their many contributions to ScreaminMamas. We hope you enjoy meeting them here using our slideshow and reading about their adventures in motherhood, life, writing & more. Enjoy!
